Day 9. Mestia - magical!

Friday, 29.05.2015
After the flight...

The guesthouse was at a small street near the central square. Outside the building there was one of these characteristic Svanetian stone towers! Such historical tower just at the corner!
We were greeted by a young lady who didn't speak English but she was very kind and eager to serve us. We received 5-bed room in the upper part of the house and the price was 35 GEL per night/person (14 EUR), including breakfast and dinner. (These are standard prices in Mestia: 35-40 GEL and the two meals are just delicious!)

- "Great! So who will transfer it on the wall?
- "You Claudia! You have very nice..." - I said making a pause.
- "Handwriting !!!" - Justina quickly added suggesting it was the only possible ending of the sentence as Claudia did not have anything else "nice" Of course, everything as a joke.
That is how we created beautiful memorial inscription on the wall in the restaurant in the center of Mestia:
Georgia is g(e)orgeous!
We left our hearts here*...

Later, sitting outside at the restaurant terrace we heard loud singing and applause. We looked towards the square and we saw a group of young Georgian people playing some show.
- "Oh look, the local teenagers meet in the center and play theatre."
- " So this is how they spend a Friday night... cool, isn't it?" - we were guessing what it could be.
On the way to the guest house we stopped there to have a look. Young people were dancing, singing and playing different roles on a wooden stage and a group of adults was clapping their hands. Charming view.
Michelle, Kate and Justina wanted to go to sleep, but Claudia and I decided to stay until the end and then to have a short walk around to admire illuminated towers and dark sky full of stars! No way to go to sleep so early!

We talked a lot about Mestia and Georgia. Claudia and I described our trip and we kept saying Georgia was an amazing country; its people, food and culture. The boys were extremely happy to hear that as they were very proud of their country and culture. We learned from them how to count till 10 in Georgian and we found out how to say famous Shakespeare quote: "To be or not to be", namely:  "Kofna ar kofna?"

And here are the numbers in Georgian language:
1 - etri         6 - ekvsi
2 - ori          7 - shvidi
3 - sami       8 - rwa
4 - otkhi      9 - tshra
5 - huti       10 - ati

As I mentioned before, meeting local people is extremely enriching for your travel experience! What is more, you make new friends! ;)
